No one really wants to talk about life insurance…so how do you engage prospective customers? Set in a warm, inviting coffeehouse, we created a series of inner-voice monologues for AIG Direct. Each video focused on a key question such as “How Much Life Insurance Do I Need?” and “Do Both Spouses Need Life Insurance?” Conversational scriptwriting was enhanced with digital animation on-set graphics to present a visually compelling story in a casual context.
Federal financial regulators play a crucial but often overlooked role in maintaining economic stability. Tapping into their unmet needs, Deloitte Consulting designed a suite of customized software solutions. The scriptwriting assignment required me to balance conversational language with wording specified by the company’s legal department. This video, shot on green-screen, acknowledges their often-thankless work, proves Deloitte knows how to speak their language. With that spirit of understanding, the company introduces its customized product offerings.
Facilities management provider Sodexo needed everyone from CEOs to custodians in the healthcare sector to understand the devastating effects of biofilm contamination…and the effective ways the company combats exposure. The client had already approved a futuristic animation style when I was brought on board. The scriptwriting tone carried with a hint of sci-fi drama without going too spacey. We presented threat, solution and sell in just over two minutes.
“We’re all about fast.” That’s how the president of Lightning Source (now Ingram Content Group) described the print-on-demand company’s most impressive attribute. The scriptwriting approach needed to match that pace. Co-produced with Michael Merriman of Kemosabe Films, I wrote the script, collaborated with the director of photographer during the shoot and supervised the editing process. Quick shots of sports action and jump-cuts of the production process were set to an aggressive music track for a full-throttle demonstration of speed. Because the video was such a radical departure from its competitors’ imagery, it proved a real eye-grabber at trade shows.
Our American Family
For the documentary series Our American Family, viewed via PBS syndication and Amazon Prime, I serve as co-producer, researcher, interviewer and writer. For each half-hour episode, I take hours of interview transcripts and whittle them down to 23 minutes of family members telling their stories of triumph, tragedy and everyday life 1900-1950. The series was created by executive producer Steven Young/Legacy Filmworks with Bradford Van Demark of BlueSky Filmworks serving as co-producer, videographer and editor.
Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music
In this sampler reel, you’ll get a sense of the madcap musical mayhem of Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music. Ridiculously unconventional, the 30-episodes series of 14-minute videos has been applauded by both teachers and students as a truly fun way to grasp music fundamentals. Paired with a robust collection of music, white-board lessons and a vast interactive website, it’s taken the world of elementary music education by storm. As head writer for the series, I was involved in all phases of script development and production.
